Students Invited To Explore Major Options At Feb. 26 Fair

Looking for a major? The search may be over.

The University of Iowa Academic Advising Center and the UI Career Center are joining up again to sponsor the Second Annual Exploring Majors Fair on Thursday, Feb. 26 in the Richey Ballroom in the Iowa Memorial Union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The fair is designed to provide inspiration for students who haven't chosen a major as well as any student searching for second major, minor or certificate program, said Diane Hauser, an academic advisor and one of the Exploring Majors Fair organizers. Last year more than 300 students attended the fair to get advice and learn information about choosing a major or planning a career.

Students are invited to drop-in any time during the fair. In addition, four 45-minute advising sessions focused on hot career areas will be held at these scheduled times:

-- 10:15 a.m. Working with Children
-- 11:15 a.m. Forensics, Biotech and all Things Scientific
-- 12:15 p.m. Hot Careers: How to Plan One
-- 1:15 p.m. Public Service

"From the feedback we got from the fair last year, the students and faculty think that the fair is a worthwhile event," said Hauser. "It gives students the opportunity to ask questions and find a major that they can enjoy."

Representatives from more than 50 UI departments will available for students to meet, including faculty from professional program such as law, medicine and pharmacy. Academic and Career Center advisors will be on hand to answer general questions about majors and careers.

For more information or updates on session times go to the Academic Advising Center website at and click on the Exploring Majors Fair link.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation in order to participate in this program, contact Diane Hauser in advance at 353-5700.
