Regent Universities To Connect Grads, Iowa Employers At Job Fair
The alumni associations of Iowa's three state universities -- the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa -- are making it easier for alumni and students to connect with employers in the state: The Ninth Annual Regents Universities Job Fair, hosted by the three alumni associations, will take place on Friday, Jan. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Polk County Convention Complex in downtown Des Moines.
Iowa's state universities are governed by the Board of Regents, a group of nine citizen volunteers who also govern two special K-12 schools -- the Iowa School for the Deaf and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School -- through policymaking, coordination, and oversight.
The nationally recognized Regents Universities Job Fair is free and open to anyone seeking employment in the state of Iowa and any Iowa employer looking to fill positions. Last year, more than 1,100 individuals mingled with more than 50 Iowa companies, including banks, major insurance companies, manufacturing firms, nonprofit organizations and state government agencies.
"The job fair is an important cooperative effort among the Regent universities' alumni associations to help Iowa employers meet a highly qualified group of prospective employees -- our graduates -- who want to stay or return to Iowa," said Gregory S. Nichols, executive director of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa. "It's a great opportunity for all participants."
Certified professionals from the Central Iowa Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management also will be at the job fair to provide guidance and give individuals ideas on how to enhance their résumés.
Information about the Regents Universities Job Fair is available on its Web site: www.regentsjobfair.org
