Commemorative Postal Cancellation Stamps Mark Return Of Joffrey 'Nutcracker'

The return of the Joffrey Ballet production of "The Nutcracker" to the University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium will be celebrated with commemorative cancellation stamps, available in a special display at the Iowa City Main Post Office, 400 S. Clinton St., from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 6 and 7.

Envelopes, post cards and other paper goods may be stamped, and a custom rubber stamp has been created for each of the two dates.

Postage stamps -- including the series commemorating American choreographers -- will be available for purchase in conjunction with the "Nutcracker" cancellation, and collectibles including ballet bears and stuffed nutcrackers will also be available for purchase at the display.

The Joffrey "Nutcracker," which had its 1987 world premiere in Hancher as "Iowa's Holiday Gift to the Nation," will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9-11, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12. Tickets are available at the Hancher box office.
