UI Museum Of Arts Docents Will Lead Weekly Tours During Fall 2004

The University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA) will offer weekly public tours of its exhibitions at 2 p.m. Sundays during the fall, starting Aug. 29. The tours, which will be free and open to the public, will be led most weeks by museum docents -- trained volunteers who are familiar with the museum and its collections.

In addition to the Aug. 29 tour, docents will lead tours on Sundays, Sept. 5, 19 and 26; Oct. 3, 10 and 17; Nov. 7; and December 5. On other Sundays, museum curators will lead tours of specific exhibitions, or other museum events will replace the docent-led tour.

Curator Kathleen Edwards will lead a tour of "Visions and Views: Master Prints from the Collection" Sunday, Sept. 12; the UIMA will presents its "Fall Family Day" Sunday, Oct. 24; curator Pamela Trimpe will lead a tour of regionalist and early 20th-century American works in the museum's collection Sunday, Oct. 31; and curator Victoria Rovine will lead a tour of "Beaded Rhythms: Women's Adornments from Northern Cameroon" Sunday, Nov. 14.

Due to holidays and museum closings, there will be no tour on Sundays, Nov. 21 and 28 and Dec. 12, 19 and 26. A schedule of tours for the spring semester, 2005, will be announced later.

The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Admission is free. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
