UI Students Awarded Sanxay Prize From Graduate College
The University of Iowa Graduate College has awarded UI seniors Thomas Hegna and Kristy Hirowaka the Sanxay Prize for showing promise of high academic achievement. The prize, awarded to Iowa natives, includes $500 for each recipient to be used for graduate school.
Hegna, an Avoca native a graduate of A-H-S-T Community High School, will graduate in May with a bachelors degree in geo-science and minors in English and philosophy. He will begin his graduate education in the UI masters program in invertebrate paleontology in the fall and continue in a doctoral program after completing that degree.
Hirowaka, an Iowa City native and a 2000 graduate of City High, will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in anthropology. She plans to pursue a doctorate in anthropology at the University of California at Davis.
Hegna and Hirowaka were honored at the Graduate Honors Award Ceremony on April 18.
