OISS Invites UI Community To Hoe Down April 16
The University of Iowa Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) is inviting everyone to an evening of fun and square dancing on Friday, April 16, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the International Center Lounge.
The hoe down will be conducted by Chuck Lovig and is free and open to the public. "This is a great way to interact with people from other cultures," says Helen Jameson, assistant director for programming for OISS. Square Dancing consists of a few calls that can be learned quickly in an evening and can be practiced in the form of a "hoe down," or an introduction to square dancing.
"Music and dancing are universal experiences, but square dancing is a new experience for many current domestic and international UI students," says Jameson. "Most of us are on a level playing field when we are learning together how to square dance."
For more information on the event or for special accommodations, contact the OISS at 319-335-0335.
OISS is affiliated with UI International Programs, which consist of a number of offices, centers, degree programs, academic programs, research projects and services. Organized under the associate provost for academic programs and dean of international programs, these units serve to further internationalize the campus and the community and promote global scholarship, research and teaching.
