Westermann, Gentsch Elected To Public Health Offices
Two University of Iowa College of Public Health affiliates have been elected to serve as officers in the Iowa Public Health Association (IPHA), a multi-disciplinary organization for professionals in public health.
Jörg Westermann, Ph.D., assistant professor (clinical) of health management and policy and director of continuing education for the Institute for Public Health Practice, was named president-elect of the IPHA. During 2004 he will serve as the chair of the planning committee for the 2005 statewide public health conference, attend executive board meetings and be mentored by the current and former presidents of IPHA. He will assume the presidency in spring 2005.
Dawn Gentsch, a program associate with the Institute for Public Health Practice and adjunct lecturer in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health, was selected to serve a fourth consecutive term as treasurer. Gentsch also will serve on the public health conference planning committee and begin her new term in spring 2005.
The membership and leadership of IPHA includes representation from state and local government, profit and not-for-profit agencies, and practice and academic communities across the state. During the course of each year IPHA sponsors and participates in conferences, advocates for public health, and represents public health interests on behalf of the public health community and those who benefit from public health. The IPHA was founded in 1925. More information is available at http://www.iowapha.org/.
