UI Students Gain Experience Through Internships
Several University of Iowa students recently gained real-world work experience by completing internships at various companies and organizations around Iowa and the United States.
Internships like these are valuable because they allow students to evaluate their career choices while gaining professional experience.
EDITORS: Receipt of this release indicates that a student from your coverage area recently completed a summer internship. Information is provided in the following order below: hometown; name; class year; major; internship location; internship title or description. Iowa students are listed first.
ALTOONA: Nikki Taylor, a senior art history major, interned as a gallery assistant at Karolyn Sherwood Gallery in Des Moines, Iowa.
ANAMOSA: Brooke Watters, a senior elementary education major, worked with 3rd-5th graders for her internship at Adults Connecting with Children and Teens (ACCT) in Washington, Iowa.
ANKENY: Christine Johnston, a senior journalism/women's studies major, worked as an intern in international public relations for ADComm Inc. in Washington, D.C.
CEDAR RAPIDS: Jennifer Byres, a senior psychology major, worked with program design and implementation for her internship with St. Luke's Hospital-Center for Health and Well-Being in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
CEDAR RAPIDS: Crystal Higgins, a senior journalism/political science major, interned at Tanager Place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, doing event planning/community relations development.
CEDAR RAPIDS: Shelbi Thomas, a junior journalism/English major, interned as a writer, editor and reporter for the World I Magazine in Washington, D.C.
CLINTON: Megan Vens, a junior biology major, interned as a bird keeper and aquarist at Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Neb.
CLIVE: Natalie Hyde, a senior political science/history major, shadowed an attorney for her internship at the Office of the Corporation Counsel in Washington, D.C.
DES MOINES: Michelle Hammer, a senior finance major, interned at Bankers Trust in Des Moines, Iowa.
DEWITT: Hillary Hall, a senior communications major, interned at University of Iowa Orientation Services in Iowa City, Iowa.
MONONA: Michael Garms, a senior journalism/theatre arts major, interned in the publicity department at Miramax Film Corporation in West Hollywood, Calif.
STORY CITY: Allison Heckert, a junior management/finance major, performed commercial mortgage underwriting for his internship at Principal Financial Group in Des Moines, Iowa.
SOUIX CITY: Ryan Anderson, a senior marketing major, interned at ITW Brands in Schaumburg, Ill. doing market research.
URBANDALE: Logan Vidal, a sophomore biology major, performed lab research for his internship at Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa.
BARRINGTON: Kelly A. O'Brien, who is a journalism major and a business minor, interned at the Whistleblower Center in Washington D.C. as part of the Washington Center program.
FLOSSMOOR: Joseph Klauck, a senior communications major, interned at Tower Productions in Chicago, Ill. doing video production.
GLEN ELLYN: William Prudden, a junior management major, completed data entry and performed clerical work while interning for Professor Dennis Schrag in Iowa City, Iowa.
GLENVIEW: Kimberly Brisk, a senior political science major, interned for Congressman Mark Steven Kirk in Washington, D.C.
HANOVER PARK: Jennifer Kasper, a junior business/marketing major, did clerical work for her internship at the American Academy of Pediatrics in Elk Grove Village, Ill.
HIGHLAND PARK: Jered Matthysse, a senior political science/history major, interned as a research assistant for NATO Staff Officer Orientation (NSOOC) in Washington, D.C.
NAPERVILLE: Nicholas Gavalick, a senior finance major, assisted in international export for his internship at Wm. Wrigley Company in Chicago, Ill.
NAPERVILLE: Marie Todd, a senior finance/management major, interned at Kimberly Clark Co. in Neenah, Wisconsin. He provided financial support for product lines.
WASHINGTON: Mike Heitzman, a senior accounting/marketing major, helped with accounting for his interning at Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Illinois.
WHEATON: Megan McFarlane, a senior journalism/religion major, was a national marketing intern for WNET Channel 13(PBS) in New York, N.Y.
WYOMING: Sarah Stabler, a senior communications major, interned as the assistant for outdoor events and activities at Peoria Park District-Riverfront Division in Peoria, Ill.
