UI Alumni Are Homeward Bound For Homecoming Reunion 2003

University of Iowa alumni will be headed for Iowa City Oct. 3-4 to celebrate Homecoming Reunion 2003, reconnecting with classmates at activities such as a pep rally, concert, reunion class dinners and pre-game tailgates.

The University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) is sponsoring Homecoming Reunion Weekend, which is a great opportunity for alumni to come back to campus to celebrate and remember their good times at the UI, said Staci Valenta, the Alumni Association's reunion director.

The activities start Friday, Oct. 3, with the Homecoming Parade at 5:45 p.m. in downtown Iowa City, featuring former Hawkeye football coach Hayden Fry as honored guest. Following the parade, alumni will gather with UI students for the traditional Homecoming pep rally. A new event, "Rockin' the Streets" starts at 8 p.m. at the corner of Iowa Avenue and Clinton Street, featuring music from Dave Zollo and the Body Electric featuring Bo Ramsey, and the Nadas. The UIAA, Homecoming Council and SCOPE are co-sponsoring this event.

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Oct. 4, alumni will gather for the Reunion Game Day Kickoff at the Levitt Center, where they can pick reunion dinner and football tickets, have their picture taken with Herky, enjoy refreshments, and then take a campus tour and relive their UI memories. The Hawkeyes then take on Michigan at 2:35 p.m. for the Homecoming game.

The UIAA is hosting reunions for the classes of 1978, 1983 and 1993, along with the College of Law class of 1973, College of Pharmacy class of 1998. The UI colleges of Law, Engineering, Pharmacy, as well as the Tippie College of Business and Carver College of Medicine are also holding several Homecoming activities for their alumni.

Members of the Alumni Band will also march in the parade and gather for a 30th anniversary banquet following the Homecoming game.
