MEDIA ADVISORY: Media Are Invited To Gerdin Athletic Learning Center Dedication
Media are invited to the dedication ceremony for the University of Iowa's new Russell and Ann Gerdin Athletic Learning Center. The ceremony and program will be Friday, Sept. 5 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gerdin Center. The Gerdin Center is located at 402 Melrose Ave. in Iowa City, west of the Boyd Law Building and south of Slater Residence Hall.
Speakers will include David J. Skorton, UI president; Russell Gerdin, the center's lead donor; Bob Bowlsby, UI director of athletics; Gayle Blevins, UI head softball coach; Laura Holmes, member of the UI women's golf team and chair of the Iowa Student-Athlete Advisory Committee; and other university and UI Foundation representatives.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house will follow the program.
The Russell and Ann Gerdin Athletic Learning Center is a state-of-the-art academic facility privately financed through contributions to the UI Foundation. The center will enable the UI Athletic Student Services office to fully integrate the athletic and academic development of more than 600 student-athletes each year.
