MEDIA ADVISORY: Seymour Hersh Telephone Press Conference Set

A press conference via conference call will be held with investigative journalist Seymour Hersh at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 in Room 145 in the Iowa Memorial Union. All media are invited to attend.

Hersh will be speaking at the University of Iowa on Monday, Nov. 3, discussing the role that foreign relations will play in next year's elections. His lecture, "America's Foreign Policy in the Coming Election," will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge in the Iowa Memorial Union. Admission is free and open to the public.

Hersh first came to prominence in 1969 when his freelance reporting uncovered the massacre of civilians at the village of My Lai during the Vietnam War. Since then, he has reported on the illegal U.S. bombing of Cambodia during the war, the U.S. role in the overthrow of Chilean President Salvador Allende, the drug empire run by former Panamanian dictator Manual Noriega and the growth of Israel's nuclear arsenal.

Hersh is also the author of such bestselling books as "The Dark Side of Camelot," revealing the scandals of the John Kennedy administration that were never reported. For his work, Hersh has received such honors as the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award.

Hersh's appearance at UI is sponsored by the University Lecture Committee. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact the UI Lecture Committee at 319-335-3255.
