Local Student Member Of UI Dance Marathon Leadership Team

(Student name), of (hometown) is currently serving as (position name) for the 2004 University of Iowa Dance Marathon. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the mission of UI Dance Marathon is to provide financial and emotional support through special projects to families served by The Children's Hospital of Iowa at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, with an emphasis on the pediatric oncology unit.

The annual marathon event, held in February, raises funds through corporate donations, in-kind gifts and independent donors. Dancers remain on their feet without caffeine or watches for the entire 24 hours, dancing the night away.

Throughout the past nine years, UI Dance Marathon has raised more than $2.8 million, with the 2003 event raising more than $607,000 alone and sponsoring more than 200 families through the help of over 700 student dancers and 300 volunteers. Affiliated with the Children's Miracle Network, the UI marathon is one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the United States and the largest CMN Dance Marathon worldwide.

BUSINESS DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Maintains and develops the DM budget, updates dancer database, oversees dancer check-in, grants approval of all money requests, and works with the Student Office of Business and Allocations.

DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Coordinates canning, Spirit Dancers, CMN Miracle Games, Alumni Relations and the event highlight video.

ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Plans and coordinates all of the entertainment featured at the marathon event, Battle of the Bands and morale highlight videos.

EVENT DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Plans and implements registration events, leads dancer meetings, and ensures that the actual marathon event runs smoothly

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Leads the 14 member executive council, facilitates executive meetings and serves as the principle representative on campus for Dance Marathon.

FACILITIES DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: coordinates all aspects of physical space requirements for DM, room and hotel reservations, parking, staging, lighting, sound, power and storage.

FAMILY PROGRAMMING DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Responsible for planning and implementing all of the family events throughout the year including the holiday gift program and organizes the families at the marathon event.

FAMILY RELATIONS DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Oversees all facets of family relations including family projects, hospital relations and funding allocations that affect families.

FAMILY REPRESENTATIVE DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Coordinates all the family representatives, the organizations they represent and the families they sponsor.

HOSPITALITY DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Coordinates all food donations and meal service during the event

MINI DANCE MARATHON DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: planning and implementing Mini-DMs at elementary, middle and high schools across the state of Iowa.

MORALE CAPTAIN: Serves as liaison between the executive council of DM and the dancers themselves, recruits dancers and serving to keep them informed throughout the year, as well as assist with dancer fund raising and motivate dancers at the marathon event.

MORALE DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Coordinates and directs morale captains and their assistants, focusing on dancer recruitment and retention

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: responsible for executive meeting minutes and agendas, coordinates committee and volunteer drives.

PUBLIC RELATIONS/MARKETING DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Responsible for overall graphic look of DM including flyers, posters, website, event programs, radio advertisements and television PSAs.

SPONSORSHIP DIRECTOR/ASSISTANT: Coordinates corporate, organizational and group sponsorship, wishing well donation sites and DM merchandise.
