UI Health Care Staff Members Win National Awards
Eight staff members from the Joint Office for Planning, Marketing and Communications, a part of University of Iowa Health Care, received awards for publications and marketing excellence in national competitions.
They were Zlatko Anguelov, Pat Badtke, Clancy Champanois, Cheryl Hodgson, Rita Liddell, Michael Sondergard, Lee Ann Williams and Jane Zukin. Also honored were photographer Doug Benton (Fisheye Photography in Hiawatha) and designer Robyn Hepker (Benson and Hepker Designers in Iowa City).
Zukin edits Compass, a newsletter for faculty, staff, volunteers and students at UI Hospitals and Clinics. Compass received awards in four competitions: Award of Excellence, Communications Concepts APEX awards; Award of Distinction, Communicator Awards; Award of Merit, Dalton Pen competition, and honorable mention, American Society of Professional Communicators.
Champanois, who edits Partners, a newsletter published by the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Anguelov, who edits a physician-oriented magazine called Currents, received Awards of Excellence in the Communication Concepts APEX awards competition. Champanois' award was for writing while Anguelov's was honored in the Magazines and Journals category.
Champanois also received recognition from the National Health Information Awards for an article written for PACEMAKER magazine about the da Vinci robotic surgical system at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Hodgson, a marketing specialist, along with designers Williams and Kristin Phelan, received Awards of Merit in the Bronze Quill Award competition sponsored by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)-Iowa. Their winning project was a donor recruitment mailer produced for the DeGowin Blood Center at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Sondergard (editor), Williams (designer), Benton, Liddell (photo coordinator), and Champanois (writing), along with writing intern Evan Peterson, received recognition for their work on the UI Hospitals and Clinics Annual Report. The Annual Report received a Citation of Excellence in IABC-Iowa Bronze Quill competition and an Award of Merit in IABC-Midwest competition.
Sondergard also edits PACEMAKER magazine, which received a Crystal Award of Excellence in Communicator national competition and an Award of Merit in IABC-Iowa Bronze Quill competition. The publication is designed by Hepker with photography by Benton and photo coordination by Liddell.
