Hoover Life, Presidency On Display In UI Libraries Exhibit
As a parade of presidential hopefuls woos local voters, Iowans can learn more about the state's only U.S. president at a special exhibit about the life and administration of Herbert Hoover on display in the Government Publications Department in the University of Iowa Main Library through Nov. 6.
The information kiosk will feature more than 70 photographs, reproductions of telegrams, letters and clippings from the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch. In addition, material gathered from the UI Libraries' Government Documents Collection highlight public policies that shaped Hoover's decisions as president and Hoover's decisions that shaped public policies.
The Government Publications Department is on the third floor of the Main Library. The exhibit may be viewed during regular business hours: 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 12:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
The Government Publications Department is a depository for U.S. federal, State of Iowa, United Nations and European Union publications. Those include official reports, statistical resources, legislative information, periodicals, policy analysis and general information guides. The collection contains more than 3 million documents in formats including paper and microform, CD-ROM, DVD and Internet-based publications.
