Economist Magazine Ranks UI MBA Program 33rd In Global Ranking

In its global ranking, The Economist magazine ranked the University of Iowa's MBA program 33rd among the 100 best full-time MBA programs in the world, moving up two spots from 35th in the 2002 ranking.

Tippie School of Management's MBA program ranked 22nd among those in the United States, eighth among public U.S. universities.

Through its annual publication "Which MBA?" the Economist Intelligence Unit has been surveying the views of MBA students for 15 years.

In addition to data supplied by schools in the ranking about job placement, admissions standards and alumni networks, the Economist asked 23,000 MBA students and alumni from 115 schools to give qualitative assessments of MBA programs. The study surveyed each program's ability to provide its graduates with new career opportunities and foster personal development and educational experience. It also examined what opportunities the MBA program gave its students to network and what impact the degree had on their salaries.

Gary Gaeth, associate dean of MBA programs in the Tippie School of Management, said "This ranking is gratifying because the Economist conducts one of the most comprehensive media surveys. Its criteria include data from schools world-wide. Their process includes measures of faculty quality and effectiveness, student access to faculty, which are clearly strengths of our program. It also measures student and alumni input, which I feel is vital to the success of a top-flight program. In the final analysis, our mission is to add professional and personal value to our students' lives."

"This ranking further reinforces Tippie's place among the top programs in the U.S., especially among public institutions. The Economist's focus on outcomes is particularly meaningful in validating the efforts made by the Tippie MBA program and its faculty to improve the quality of our students' educational experience," added Mary Spreen, director of admissions at the Tippie School.

The Tippie School of Management offers three MBA programs designed to enhance professional education: a Full-time MBA; the Evening MBA for part-time students in Des Moines, Newton, Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities; and the Executive MBA, with programs in Iowa City and Des Moines. The Tippie School offers a Dual Master's Degree Program for engineers, in conjunction with Iowa State University and an International Executive MBA program in Hong Kong.

The Tippie College of Business, accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), is consistently ranked among the top business schools in the world. It provides instruction in a personalized setting with easy access to qualified faculty and staff, and its programs utilize the latest technology to ensure that students receive a comprehensive management education that will help them succeed in today's competitive world.
