Two Homecoming Commemorative Buttons Offered This Year

To commemorate two special occasions this year, two separate Homecoming special edition buttons will be offered for sale by the University of Iowa Homecoming Committee.

The first button celebrates the return of the Old Capitol cupola and dome. The second honors former head football coach Hayden Fry, inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame and this year's Grand Marshall and Homecoming Honored Guest.

Only 250 copies of the limited edition Old Capitol button will be produced. Buttons numbered 1 through 25, and 250 in this series will be signed by David Skorton, UI president. In addition, the certificates of authenticity for these will be hand signed by both Skorton and Kim Lorence, 2003 Homecoming director. Numbers 26 through 249 will be numbered, but Skorton will not sign them. All 250 Old Capitol Special Editions will include a certificate of authenticity, a brief history about the Old Capitol dome, a biography of artist Brian Anstey and a special presentation case.

Only 500 copies of the Hayden Fry button will be produced. Buttons numbered 1 through 25, and 500 in this series will be hand numbered, and signed by Fry. Numbers 26 through 499 will be numbered, but not signed. All Hayden Fry Commemoratives will include a certificate of authenticity, a summary of Fry's years at Iowa, a biography of Anstey and a special presentation case.

To facilitate sales of the signed buttons, a special bidding process has been established: bids will be accepted by mail or in person only through the University Box Office in the Iowa Memorial Union. All bids must be submitted in legible writing and sealed in an envelope with the following information: name, address, email address, phone number(s). Also tell us what button you are bidding on, and the amount of your bid. Starting bids for the Old Capitol button are $45, and for the Hayden Fry button, $55. Bidders can place only one bid on either button; two separate bids must be submitted by those who are bidding on both.

Bids for signed buttons will be accepted in person or by mail only at the University Box Office in the IMU. No bids will be accepted by telephone or fax. Do not include money or credit card information with your bid, as you will be contacted if your bid is a winning bid. All bids must be received in the University Box Office by Friday, Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. CST.

The highest bid will take the lowest available number in each series.

All bids are final. Winning bidders will be notified beginning Monday, Oct. 13. Buttons should be picked up in person at the University Box Office. If shipping is requested a $5 shipping fee will be added per button.

Numbered buttons that are not signed will be offered for sale starting Thursday, Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. in the University Box Office. The buttons cost $45 for the Old Capitol limited edition, $55 for the Hayden Fry commemorative. A limit of five buttons per series can be sold to one person. Payment can be in cash or credit card.

Buttons can also be purchased by phone by calling 335-3041 or 1-800-346-4401. Credit card orders only will be accepted by phone. A $5 shipping fee will be charged for those button orders that will be mailed.

Buttons will be sold in numeric order to the next available buyer while supplies last. Customers may not pick specific numbers for purchase.

All sales are final.
