Location, Time of Mitch Albom Appearance Changed
The Dec. 4 appearance by author, columnist and radio talk show host Mitch Albom has been moved to the Auditorium in MacBride Hall and will begin at 8 p.m. The program was originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union.
Seating is on a first come, first served basis and will be limited to the first 750 people who attend.
Albom is the author of the recently released novel "The Five People you Meet in Heaven," the story of an old man who fixes amusement park rides and has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. On his 83rd birthday, he is killed in a tragic accident and awakes in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination but a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, his five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life.
Albom is also the author of "Tuesdays with Morrie," a chronicle of his weekly meetings with a former college professor dying of Lou Gehrig's Disease during which the professor taught him to look at life in a different way. The book was later made into an Emmy-winning TV movie and a play.
Albom is also a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist for the Detroit Free Press, a nationally syndicated radio host for ABC and flagship station WJR-AM in Detroit, and a television commentator who regularly appears on ESPN's Sports Reporters.
