New UI Web Site Promotes Continuing Medical Education

As the field of medicine rapidly advances, health care professionals must stay aware of new developments and procedures. To help them, there is the division of Continuing Medical Education (CME) in the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine.

A new CME web site launched this month allows community physicians and other health care professionals from across Iowa and nearby states to learn about the college's continuing medical education opportunities, which include conferences, web-based courses, video conferences, journal clubs and traineeships. The web site is located at

"CME courses provide an opportunity for community physicians to hear about the latest advances in medical research and find out how that research translates into better care for their patients," said Susan Zollo, program coordinator for the UI Carver College of Medicine CME division.

The new web site also features the Iowa Physicians CME Survey, which seeks to learn what physicians look for in continuing education programs. The results of the brief survey, which only takes a few minutes to complete, will help improve CME programs.

"The goal of the survey is to help the college be more responsive to the educational needs of physicians," Zollo said. "We would also like to find what topic areas and types of activities physicians are most interested in, which will help course directors design CME program offerings that best meet the needs of the practicing physician."
