UI Hospitals and Clinics To Honor Employees May 15

University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will honor its faculty and staff at a special event May 15 during National Hospital Week.

The event to recognize the dedication of faculty and staff at UI Hospitals and Clinics is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 15 in the East Room on the 8th level of the John Colloton Pavilion. The event will honor health care professionals for their commitment to service, including the presentation of "Above and Beyond Awards" at 2 p.m. Other features include drawings for door prizes, informational displays and refreshments.

Nationally, hospitals across the United States celebrate health care and its impact upon communities during National Hospital Week. Launched in 1921, National Hospital Week is now the nation's largest health care event. The theme for this year's celebration is "Celebrating the Power of Care in the Community."

"Health care has a personal and very powerful role in the lives of our citizens," said Donna Katen-Bahensky, director and CEO of UI Hospitals and Clinics. "This is our opportunity to publicly acknowledge and thank our faculty and staff for the great job they do every day in caring for patients."

UI Hospitals and Clinics employs a total of more than 7,100 people. Together, faculty and staff care for more than 814,000 patients annually at the medical center in Iowa City, through a network of family care clinics, and through its outreach services across the state.
