Recognition Banquet To Honor Minority UI Graduates
The 13th annual Multicultural Graduation and Recognition Banquet annually held in honor of graduating minority University of Iowa students will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 15 in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union. The graduation program begins at 6:30 p.m. following the half-hour reception.
The banquet is free for graduating UI students and their families and guests. The cost for faculty, staff and the public is $10.
"The multicultural graduation and recognition banquet honors students of color in each of the university's colleges who have excelled academically while attending UI," said Carlos Serrato, banquet coordinator. Established in 1990 by the men's athletics department, the Graduate College and Support Services Programs, the recognition banquet publicly recognizes minority students receiving professional, graduate, and undergraduate degrees from the UI. Each college will confer a Dean's Achievement Award to a selected student, as well as Student Leadership Awards given by departments to students who have demonstrated leadership outside the classroom. An award will also be presented to an outstanding faculty or staff member who has exemplified achievement in cultural diversity.
