Local Student Named To UI College Of Law Moot Court Team

(Student name) of (hometown), a second-year student at the University of Iowa College of Law, was recently named to one of two of the law school's moot court teams that compete in prestigious national mock trial tournaments.

The two teams will participate in the National Moot Court Competition next fall in New York City and the Chicago Bar Association's Moot Court Competition.

(Student name) graduated from (name of high school) and received (his/her) undergraduate degree from (name of college).

Student advocates who participate in mock trial teams present written briefs on selected topics and engage in oral argument before a panel of judges as if participating in an actual appeals court case. Advocates must argue both sides of the cases during the competition and are judged for their legal reasoning, acuity, communication ability and all-around legal skills. The winners were determined by the panel of judges consisting of Ruth V. McGregor, chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court; Linda R. Reade, U.S. District Court judge for the Northern District of Iowa in Cedar Rapids; and Jerry L. Larson, justice of the Iowa Supreme Court.
