Software Firm Locates At UI Technology Innovation Center

At its March 12 meeting, the Board of Regents, State of Iowa approved a lease for Innovative Software Engineering (ISE) as the newest tenant of the University of Iowa's Technology Innovation Center (TIC).

ISE, which provides custom software development services and system integration, will be located in the TIC, the UI's business incubator for new technology-based ventures on the Oakdale Campus in Coralville.

Custom software development services, like those provided by ISE, are utilized by a wide variety of industries to computerize and automate their services. Initial ISE target markets include transportation, wireless communications and education. There is a significant potential market for software development services as companies increasingly aim to outsource product development to third parties, according to ISE founder Hass Machlab of Coralville.

"We have a terrific team with core competencies and real-world experience that address the complex requirements of business clients in our target markets," said Machlab.

The ISE group was part of the core software development branch of Diversified Software Industries, Inc. (DSI) that was founded in Iowa City in 1996 and acquired by NEXIQ in May of 2001.

Machlab received bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and has experience in both software engineering and management. He received a patent and the NASA award titled "Creative Development of a Technical Innovation".

With the addition of ISE, TIC will have 16 tenant companies. Twenty-one TIC "graduate" firms have expanded their business or met other business goals after leaving the incubator and more than a dozen other companies remained in business after leaving TIC. More than 65 technology companies have been accepted as TIC tenants since the incubator was established in 1984.
