Local Student Attends UI Engineering Academy
(Student name) of (hometown), a (year in school) at (name of high school), attended the University of Iowa College of Engineering's annual ACE (Ambassadors Connecting with Engineering) Academy of math, science and engineering for talented local high school students June 15-20 in Iowa City and the Quad Cities.
The program offers 21 Quad City and Iowa City area students, as recommended by their teachers, an in-depth study of math and science and includes those underrepresented in the field of engineering. Among other activities, the program establishes partnerships with local Quad City and Iowa City schools, industries, businesses and community programs, as well as the UI College of Engineering.
Participants receive mentors who correspond with them on such issues as leadership, higher education and science-related careers long after the formal Ace Academy session has ended. Ace Academy is sponsored by Alcoa and the UI College of Engineering.
