The Tom and Kitty Stoner Collection

UI Museum Of Art Offers Tour Feb. 9

The University of Iowa Museum of Art will present the second of three planned public tours of "Top 40! The Stoner Collection of 20th-Century Sculptors' Drawings," starting at 2 p.m. Sunday. Feb. 9 in the museum.

Admission is free of charge to the museum and to the tour.

"The Stoner Collection" will be on display at the museum through Feb. 23. Tom and Kitty Stoner are native Iowans who owned the Stoner Broadcasting System, which operated 27 radio stations nationally. Inspired by the concept of a radio station play list, the exhibition features 40 drawings by 40 distinguished European and American sculptors of the past 100 years.

The tour, led by a museum docent, will provide a look at the working processes of sculptors and will survey the historical styles of major 20th-century art movements. The Museum of Art will offer its final tour of the exhibition at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23.

Among the works featured in the exhibition are drawings by Pablo Picasso, Alexander Archipenko, Constantin Brancusi, Alberto Giacometti, Donald Judd, Richard Serra, Eva Hesse and Jeff Koons.

Public tours at the UI Museum of Art are sponsored by Iowa State Bank and Trust Co.

The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
