RoughRiders, Krispy Kreme team up to benefit Children's Miracle Network

Cedar Rapids RoughRiders fans can meet team members and help patients at the Children's Hospital of Iowa during a special event at Krispy Kreme on Blairs Ferry Road on Monday, Jan. 20.

From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., the players will greet customers, help serve doughnuts and sign autographs. Krispy Kreme will donate 25 cents to Children's Miracle Network for each dozen doughnuts sold that day. Team members will also wear their special Children's Miracle Network jerseys. The jerseys sport the logos of Children's Miracle Network, Children's Hospital of Iowa and Krispy Kreme, a major Children's Miracle Network supporter that donated costs of providing the jerseys.

The RoughRiders wore the special jerseys during games on Oct. 20, Nov. 1, Nov.27, and Dec. 15 in 2002 and will wear them again for their games on Jan. 24 and Feb. 15. After the game on Feb. 15, the jerseys will be auctioned with all proceeds to benefit Children's Miracle Network. The minimum bid for each jersey will be $100. Last season, the RoughRiders donated $12,690 to Children's Miracle Network following the jersey auction.

Proceeds of the event will benefit patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics across the state. One hundred percent of all donations to Children's Miracle Network remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 100,000 children receive care at Children's Hospital of Iowa each year.

Children's Miracle Network is the nation's largest charitable organization. Money donated to Children's Miracle Network is used to enhance the quality of patients' hospital stays, support research and purchase sophisticated pediatric health care technology.
