Explore Engineering at Iowa Day set for Feb. 22

Prospective students and their parents will have the opportunity to learn about life as a student in the University of Iowa’s College of Engineering on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences.

The event will run from 12:30 to 5 p.m., including presentations, student panels and tours of research labs in the College. There is also an optional morning walking tour of campus. This is the second of three "Explore Engineering@Iowa Days," with the third scheduled for Saturday, April 12. The programs are designed for high school seniors and juniors and their parents.

"The Explore Engineering@Iowa programs have been very successful at showcasing all that Iowa's College of Engineering has to offer. Our guests are very impressed by the students and faculty members they meet, as well as by our beautiful new building, and often decide, after visiting, that this is the right engineering program for them," says the event's organizer, Jane Dorman, director of Engineering Admissions and Outreach.

The schedule includes presentations by Dorman and Engineering Career Services, a glimpse at a variety of current faculty research projects, sessions for high school students to talk with college students and parents to talk with faculty, and exhibits designed by student organizations. Featured labs will include GROK (Graphical Representation of Knowledge), Human Genome Sequencing, and Biomechanics of the Spine. Engineering Student Ambassadors and current engineering student volunteers will assist visitors throughout the day.

Because of space constraints, the number of participantss is limited to 150 guests. Preregistration is highly recommended. Prospective engineering students can register to attend "Explore Engineering@Iowa Days" by telephone at 319-335-5706, through e-mail at, or online at: .
