Explore Engineering at Iowa Day set for Feb. 22
Prospective students and their parents will have the opportunity to learn
about life as a student in the University of Iowas College of Engineering
on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences.
The event will run from 12:30 to 5 p.m., including presentations, student
panels and tours of research labs in the College. There is also an optional
morning walking tour of campus. This is the second of three "Explore
Engineering@Iowa Days," with the third scheduled for Saturday, April
12. The programs are designed for high school seniors and juniors and their

showcasing all that Iowa's College of Engineering has to offer. Our guests
are very impressed by the students and faculty members they meet, as well
as by our beautiful new building, and often decide, after visiting, that this
is the right engineering program for them," says the event's organizer,
Jane Dorman, director of Engineering Admissions and Outreach.
The schedule includes presentations by Dorman and Engineering Career Services,
a glimpse at a variety of current faculty research projects, sessions for
high school students to talk with college students and parents to talk with
faculty, and exhibits designed by student organizations. Featured labs will
include GROK (Graphical Representation of Knowledge), Human Genome Sequencing,
and Biomechanics of the Spine. Engineering Student Ambassadors and current
engineering student volunteers will assist visitors throughout the day.
Because of space constraints, the number of participantss is limited to
150 guests. Preregistration is highly recommended. Prospective engineering
