Two UI Graduates Finalists For Golden Apple Award
Two University of Iowa College of Education alumni -- 1993 alumna Marcy Ring and 1997 alumna Meghan M. Sweet -- were recently selected as finalists for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. The two will learn in March whether they are among the 10 recipients of the award. Ring and Sweet are both elementary education graduates.
The Golden Apple Award is given annually to the 10 most outstanding teachers in the Chicago metropolitan area. Ring, a teacher at Suder Elementary School in Chicago, and Sweet, who teaches at Greenwood Elementary School in Waukegan, Ill., attended a celebration honoring finalists at the House of Blues Feb. 15 in Chicago. The two were recognized for their outstanding commitment to their students and their profession.
The Golden Apple Foundation is a not-for-profit organization whose members believe that every child deserves excellent teachers. In recognizing the profound impact of teachers like Ring and Sweet, the foundation honors the UI for playing a role in their development.
After their selection in March, the 10 winners will be inducted into the Golden Apple Academy of Educators during the 18th Annual Golden Apple Awards Ceremony on May 31 in Chicago.
