Lee Enterprises CEO To Speak At Tippie College Of Business
Mary E. Junck, CEO of Lee Enterprises Inc., will speak at the Tippie College of Business Monday, March 3 as part of the Pearson (formerly NCS) Leadership Luncheon Series.
Tippie College students, faculty, staff, and selected members of the University and business communities have been invited to the presentation from 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. in Room W401 in the John Pappajohn Business Building.
Junck will also speak to marketing students and converse informally with members of the Women in Business organization during the morning.
Junck leads Lee Enterprises, a 113-year-old publishing company based in Davenport, Iowa. With the acquisition of 16 newspapers and a joint interest in another in 2002, Lee is the 12th largest newspaper company in the country and the premier group serving midsize communities. Lee’s 44 daily newspapers in 18 states have a combined circulation of 1.1 million daily and 1.2 million on Sundays. Lee also owns more than 175 weekly newspapers, shoppers and specialty publications. The company has approximately 6,700 employees.
Junck started out as a $10,000-a-year marketing researcher in Charlotte, N.C., rising to corporate management at Knight-Ridder Newspapers. She was hired as publisher in St. Paul and then at the Times Mirror’s Baltimore Sun.
In 1997 Junck was promoted to executive vice-president at Times Mirror Co. and president of Times Mirror Eastern Newspapers. She joined Lee Enterprises as Chief Operating Officer in 1999 and received the CEO promotion two years later.
She currently serves on the board of directors of the Newspaper Association of America. She also is a member of the board of trustees of the Putnam Museum in Davenport and is a Girl Scout leader for Pleasant Valley Troop 3085 in Iowa.
Junck is a native of Ogden, Iowa. She received a bachelor of arts degree in English from Valparaiso University in Indiana and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
