Title IX Discussed on WSUI's 'Iowa Talks'
The impending changes to Title IX will be discussed on the next Iowa Talks program, Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. on WSUI 910 AM, the University of Iowa's public radio station.
Former University of Iowa women's athletics director Christine Grant, who helped interpret Title IX 30 years ago will join the discussion about Title IX, the law that bans sex discrimination at educational institutions that receive federal funding. Also included in the discussion will be Olympic triple Gold Medalist and Florida Coastal College of Law professor Nancy Hogshead-Makar, and Bonnie Slatton of the UI department of health and sport studies. They will talk with host Julie Englander about the final report by the President's Commission on Opportunity in Athletics.
On Feb. 28, the Commission will submit its recommendations on Title IX to Secretary of Education Rod Paige. The 15-member commission was charged with examining whether opportunities for women were increasing at the expense of men's sports.
Listeners may call in with questions at 466-9100 in Johnson County, or 1-866-780-9100 from anywhere in Iowa or Illinois.
