Alert Leads To New Security Precautions At UI Events
The federally declared Orange Alert will require increased security precautions at University of Iowa events, beginning with athletic events scheduled for this weekend at Carver Hawkeye Arena. The security precautions will remain in place until further notice.
"Due to the Orange Alert, we will be inspecting all vehicles entering and parking in Lots 46 and 52 at Carver Hawkeye Arena," said Charles Green, UI assistant vice president and director of public safety. "We urge all patrons who have parking permits for those lots to allow for extra time as they make their plans for attending this weekend's athletic events."
The lots in question have space for about 300 vehicles and are located immediately west of Carver Hawkeye Arena and north in the arena's loading area. No other parking lots or ramps are affected, including those at the Dental Science Building, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and the Finkbine Commuter parking lot.
To aid security efforts, vehicles parked in metered stalls in Lot 46 will be required to vacate the lot two hours prior to the beginning of all athletic events. Vehicles remaining after that time will be towed. Here's a list of events for the weekend:
* Friday, Feb. 14, all cars must be moved from metered spaces by 5 p.m.
* Saturday, Feb. 15, all cars must be moved from metered spaces by 2 p.m.
* Sunday, Feb. 16, all cars must be moved from metered spaces by 10 a.m.
