UI Professor Elected President Of International Association
Mary Hendrix, Ph.D., the Kate Daum Research Professor and head of the department of anatomy and cell biology at the University of Iowa, will be inaugurated as the president of the Association of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Neurobiology Chairpersons at the association's annual meeting Feb. 6 in Panama City, Panama.
Hendrix is the first woman to hold the presidency of the AACBNC. The inauguration ceremony will be presided over by Mrs. Mireya Moscoso, the first woman president of the Republic of Panama.
Hendrix, who also is deputy director and associate director for basic science research of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI, will succeed Stephen Carmichael, Ph.D., professor and chair of orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic. James West, Ph.D., professor and head of human anatomy and medical neurobiology at Texas A&M University, will serve as president-elect of the AACBNC. West is a former faculty member of the UI department of anatomy and cell biology.
The AACBNC is a society of chairpersons or acting chairpersons of departments of anatomy, cell biology and neurobiology in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. The organization provides leadership and advocacy in the biomedical sciences, especially the disciplines of cell and developmental biology, neurobiology and anatomy.
