Federal Marriage Promotion Policies To Be Discussed
Iowa Women Initiating Social Change (IWIS) will sponsor a discussion of federal marriage promotion policies on Wednesday, Feb. 19 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Women's Resource and Action Center, 130 N. Madison Street, Iowa City.
Participants will have an opportunity to speak with IWIS volunteers, who have spent several months researching marriage promotion programs. These programs stem from the federal Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) policy. At the discussion, IWIS volunteers will talk about marriage promotion activities in other states, related legislation at the national level, and what is happening in Iowa. Participants will discuss how marriage promotion policies benefit or harm individuals, the effect on victims of domestic violence, and options to influence public policy.
