Albom To Be Guest On Talk Of Iowa
Author, columnist and radio talk show host Mitch Albom will be a guest on Talk of Iowa 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 on WSUI radio, 910 AM.
The appearance is part of his visit to Iowa City to speak at the University of Iowa on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Macbride Auditorium. Admission is free, although seating is limited to the first 750 people.
Talk of Iowa is a daily call-in program produced by both public radio WSUI in Iowa City and WOI AM 640 in Ames. Listeners can participate in the program by calling 466-9100 in Johnson County, or 1-866-780-9100 from anywhere in Iowa or Illinois.
Albom is author of the recently released novel "The Five People You Meet in Heaven," the story of an old man who fixes amusement park rides and has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. On his 83rd birthday, he is killed in a tragic accident and awakens in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination but a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, his five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life.
Albom is also the author of "Tuesdays with Morrie," a chronicle of his weekly meetings with a former college professor dying of Lou Gehrig's Disease where the professor taught him to look at life in a different way. The book was later made into an Emmy-winning TV movie and a play.
Albom will also host his national radio show, "The Mitch Albom Show," on Thursday in the WSUI studio. Albom's show originates from Detroit radio station WJR-AM and is carried nationally on the ABC Radio network.
Albom is also a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist for the Detroit Free Press and television commentator who appears regularly on ESPN's Sports Reporters.
