UI Dance Forum Begins Sept. 2, With UI Youth Ballet
Dance Forum, a community outreach program of the University of Iowa Dance Department, will begin its fall classes Sept. 2, marking the beginning of a new performance opportunity for young dancers -- the University of Iowa Youth Ballet.
Dance Forum offers classes for pre-school children through teens and adults, taught by both qualified UI dance students and professional instructors from the community. Classes include creative movement, beginning through advanced ballet, jazz, tap, modern dance, conditioning and yoga.
New faculty members joining Dance Forum this fall include Diego Carrasco, a former principal dancer with the Milwaukee Ballet; and Helen Chadima, emeritus faculty member and former chair of the UI Dance Department.
The UI Youth Ballet will rehearse throughout the school year, with fall and spring performances in the UI Space/Place Theater. To participate in the UI Youth Ballet, students must be registered in Dance Forum classes at a minimum level of Ballet III.
Dance Forum registration forms are available in room W106 Halsey Hall, or on-line at http://www.uiowa.edu/~dance. Registrations will be accepted in advance or through the first week of classes.
