Tickets Are Available For Events Presented By UI Division Of Performing Arts

Tickets for events presented by the University of Iowa Division of Performing Arts -- the Mainstage season of University Theatres, the annual Dance Gala performances, the Signature Series of concerts by the University Symphony and productions by the UI Martha-Ellen Tye Opera Theater -- are now available through the Hancher Auditorium box office.

The various events are detailed in a Division of Performing Arts brochure that goes into the mail Aug. 27 to UI music, theater and dance patrons. Copies of the brochure, which includes complete ticket information and an order form, are available from the division's marketing office at 319-335-3213 or

Orders are currently being taken for the division's discounted Subscription Series of four or more events. Each ticket buyer will be able to create their own discounted series by selecting the individual events they wish to attend. As detailed in the brochure, patrons who purchase tickets to four, five or six events will receive a 20-percent discount; purchasing tickets for seven or more events earns a 25-percent discount.

The inclusion of all four performance areas in a single brochure -- theaters, symphony dance and opera -- increases the opportunity for ticket buyers to purchase discounted tickets. Patrons may select specific productions of University Theatres, for example, and combine that purchase with Dance Gala, concerts by the University Symphony or opera performances to maximize their discount.

After Sept. 8 tickets may be ordered to individual events.

The following productions by University Theatres are included in the season brochure:
-- "A Funny Thing Happens on the Way to the Forum" by Stephen Sondheim, Oct. 16-26;
-- "The Shape of Things" by Neil LaBute, Dec. 4-14;
-- "Angels in America: Millennium Approaches" by Tony Kushner, Feb. 5-15;
-- the Iowa Partnership in the Arts world premiere of "The Seven" by hip-hop theater pioneer Will Power, Feb. 25-March 7; and
-- "Far Away" by Caryl Churchill, April 8- 18.

More information on the theatres' season may be found in the brochure, or on the world wide web at

Performances of UI Dance Company's Dance Gala 2003 will be held Nov. 7 and 8 in Hancher Auditorium.

Concerts in the University Symphony's Signature Series will be:
-- "Elegant Elgar," featuring the "Enigma" Variations and Hannah Holman playing the Cello Concerto Oct. 1;
-- "Stravinsky's 'Petrouchka'," Oct. 29;
-- "Glorious Bach," a performance of the B-minor Mass by the University Symphony and Choruses, Dec. 3; and
-- "Mozart's Immortal Requiem," also with selected choruses from the UI School of Music, March 24.

Tickets will also be available for two productions by the UI Martha-Ellen Tye Opera Theater:
-- "Opera Fanfare: A Merry Night with 'The Merry Widow'," a holiday benefit performance Dec. 13; and
-- Georges Bizet's "Carmen," the major spring production April 30-May 2.
