Orchestras From UI School Of Music Present Joint Concert May 4
The Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra and All-University String Orchestra from the University of Iowa School of Music will present a joint concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4 in Clapp Recital Hall on the UI campus.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be under the direction of graduate students in the conducting program of the School of Music.
The All-University String Orchestra will perform two works: the "Serenade" of Norman Leyden, conducted by Margaret Licon; and "Choreography" by Norman Dello Joio, conducted by Enaldo Oliveira.
After intermission, the Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra will perform three works: a new electronic music composition by UI graduate student Thom Judson, conducted by John Winzenberg; Georges Bizet's "L'Arlesienne" Suite No. 2, conducted by Margaret Licon; and Bedrich Smetana's "Moldau," conducted by Enaldo Oliveira.
The Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra and the All-University String Orchestra are part of the orchestra program of the UI School of Music, which includes the University Symphony and three chamber orchestras.
The School of Music is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
