UI Health Care Staff Members Win National Awards

Seven staff members from the Joint Office for Planning, Marketing and Communications, a component of University of Iowa Health Care, recently received awards in national competitions. They were Zlatko Anguelov, Pat Badtke, Clancy Champanois, Rita Liddell, Michael Sondergard, Lee Ann Williams and Jane Zukin.

Anguelov received an Award of Excellence from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Anguelov edits "Currents," a quarterly magazine targeted to practicing physicians in Iowa and adjacent states. The competition attracted some 170 entries. The award also honors "Currents" designer Robyn Hepker (Benson & Hepker Design, Iowa City).

Sondergard received an Award of Distinction in the same AAMC competition for editing "Making a Difference," the 2000-2001 annual report for UI Hospitals and Clinics. The AAMC award also honors designer Lee Ann Williams, photo coordinator Rita Liddell, photographer Doug Benton (Fisheye Photography, Hiawatha, Iowa) and writers Jane Zukin and Melinda Pradarelli (Melinda Pradarelli & Co., Iowa City).

Badtke, Champanois, and Zukin each received APEX Awards of Excellence in competition sponsored by the editors of "Writing That Works: The Business Communications Report." Badtke edits "Well & Good," a quarterly health and wellness newsletter designed by Robyn Hepker. Champanois edits "Partners," a newsletter for patients and friends of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI. Zukin edits "Compass," the monthly newsletter for faculty, staff and volunteers at UI Hospitals and Clinics. "Compass" is designed by Robyn Hepker.

Champanois and Zukin also received Merit recognition from the National Health Information Awards. Champanois' award was for "Partners." Zukin's award was for the "Patient Rights and Responsibilities" brochure, a special publication for patients at UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Zukin also received an Award of Distinction in the Communicator Awards national print competition for "Compass."

Sondergard also received a Bronze award in the National Healthcare Advertising Awards competition sponsored by Healthcare Marketing Report magazine for editing "PACEMAKER," a quarterly health care magazine targeted to friends and supporters of UI Health Care. The award also honors designer Robyn Hepker and photographer Doug Benton.
