UI biochemistry professor to speak at November ‘Finding God at Iowa’ lunch forum

Kenneth P. Murphy, associate professor of biochemistry at the UI College of Medicine, will discuss how his work as a scientist affects his beliefs and how Christianity can and should flourish in academia at the November “Finding God at Iowa” lunch forum.

The luncheon will be Friday, Nov. 1 at noon in River Room 1 in the Iowa Memorial Union. All faculty, staff and students are invited.

Murphy received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Colorado and did postdoctoral work in molecular biophysics at Johns Hopkins University prior to coming to UI in 1993. His many honors and awards include the recipient of the Carver Research Scientist Award in 1993, the Stig Sunner Award for Young Investigators in 1995 and Plenary speaker for the 15th International Conference on Chemical Thermodynamics in 1998. He and his family have been active members of the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City for many years.

The “Finding God at Iowa” lunch forum is a program of the Geneva Campus Ministry at UI, which aims to create a healthy environment for the life of the spirit and the life of the mind. For further information, contact Jason Chen at (319) 341-0007 or e-mail <>
