Former Associate Dean Of Nursing Receives Faith & Learning Award

Eleanor McClelland, former associate dean of the UI College of Nursing, is the recipient of the sixth Faith & Learning Award of the Geneva Lecture Committee at the University of Iowa.

The award was created to foster an awareness of the relevance of the Christian faith to the academic endeavor and will be presented to McClelland in ceremonies at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11 at Harper Hall, School of Music. A lecture and concert by Jeremy S. Begbie will follow.

Besides a long and distinguish career in the College of Nursing, McClelland was chosen for this year's award because of her life-long association with the Nurses Christian Fellowship, a national organization committed to encourage students in nursing to live out their faith by demonstrating love and compassion for patients under their care. She also served for many years on the Review Panel of the Journal of Christian Nursing, a quarterly publication of NCF, and was a former member of a national organization known as Christian Nurse Educators. Her many honors include the 1988 Iowa Nurses Association Nurse of the Year and 1989 Iowa Nurses Association Teresa Christy Award for Leadership Research and Education Contribution to the profession.
