'Snowflake Family Festival' Will Be At UI Museum Of Art Dec. 8
The University of Iowa Museum of Art will present its 11th annual "Snowflake
Family Festival," an afternoon of art, music, entertainment, activities
for children, and refreshments for the entire family, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday,
Dec. 8. All events during the festival are open to the public free of charge.
Scheduled events during the afternoon will be:-- at 12:30 p.m. the Chamber
Singers of Iowa City, directed by David Puderbaugh, will perform in the museum's
Sculpture Court;-- at 1:30 and 3 p.m. storyteller Mary Piper, who has frequently
performed as Mrs. Hinky Dink the Clown, will introduce her new character Rinky
Dink the Elf in the Carver Gallery; and-- at 2 p.m. three student groups from
the Preucil School of Music -- the Cello Choir, Viola Ensemble and Ensemble
con Brio -- will present a concert in the Sculpture Court.
From noon to 4 p.m. visitors, parents, children and families will have the
opportunity to design and make snowflakes. Cookies and punch will be served
throughout the afternoon.
Museum staff and volunteers will be stationed throughout the museum to welcome
visitors. Seating may be limited for performances.
Museum Director Howard Collinson commented: "The 11th annual 'Snowflake
Family Festival' will be as much fun as ever. With lots of music, storytelling,
hands-on activities, refreshments and, of course, the Museum itself, there
is sure to be plenty to do. We're so grateful to Buckle Down Publishing for
making this possible for everyone in Iowa City and the area."
Exhibitions on view in the museum during the festival will include "Miriam
Schapiro's Art: A Journey," "Paul Brach: The Negative Way, Geometry
of Faith and Music of the Spheres," "Pioneers on Paper: Works by
Women in the Collection" and "International Jewelry and Metalwork
The "Snowflake Family Festival" is sponsored by the Buckle Down
Publishing Co. of Iowa City..
The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open
noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 10 p.m. Thursday
and Friday. Admission is free. Public metered parking is available in UI parking
lots west and north of the museum.
