Iowa CHAMPS to host open house Dec. 5
The Cardiovascular Health, Assessment, Management and Prevention Service
(CHAMPS) at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will host an open house
event in its new location in the Roy Carver Pavilion from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday,
CHAMPS offers several cardiovascular health programs designed for people
who have experienced serious heart problems such as a heart attack, chest
pain, peripheral vascular disease or treatment such as a cardiac bypass surgery,
balloon angioplasty, stent placement, atherectomy or laser procedure. Cardiac
rehabilitation programs are designed to limit the physiological and psychological
effects of cardiac illness; reduce the risk for sudden death or relapse; control
cardiac symptoms; stabilize and/or improve the patient's condition; and enhance
a patient's quality of life.
Iowa CHAMPS began in 1990 and currently treats more than 1,000 patients
annually in its inpatient and outpatient services from its location in UI
Hospitals and Clinics. Its prevention program is open to anyone interested
in reducing the risk for heart disease. For more information, call (319) 356-4652
or (319) 353-8387, or visit CHAMPS online at http://www.uihealthcare.com/depts/champs/index.html.
