Students play with Hawkeye Marching Band

Nine University of Iowa students recently played their instruments with the Hawkeye Marching Bank at the UI's last home football game of the year Saturday, Nov. 10.

The students, listed below along with photos of their performance, are anxiously waiting to learn which bowl game the Hawks will attend.

The band performs under director Kevin Kastens. Under his direction, the band puts 230 students on the field for its performances. Members hail from 88 Iowa communities, as well as other states in the Midwest. They perform at pre-game and half time of all Hawkeye home football games, and travel to at least one away game each fall and to any bowl games to which the team is invited.

Leia Barrett of Laurens, Iowa, a freshman, played saxophone.

Kia Bryant of Hazel Crest, Ill., a senior, played piccolo.

Rick Dawson of Johnston, Iowa, played mellophone.

Matt Farmer of Mundelein, Ill., a sophomore, played trumpet and got the attention of the ESPN cameraman during the half-time show.

Mike Ioriatti of Villa Park, Ill., a senior, played in the drumline.

Marinan Kasper
of Bettendorf, Iowa, a senior, played piccolo.

Karla Saur
of Oelwein, Iowa, a freshman, played trumpet.

Daniel Sorce
of Elmhurst, Ill., a senior, played clarinet.
Chad Weldon of Parnell, Iowa, a junior, played trumpet. His photo was featured on the Kinnick Stadium JumboTron during pre-game ceremonies.
