KSTZ STAR 102.5 raises more than $270,000 for Children's Hospital of Iowa

Children and families across central Iowa will benefit from the round-the-clock efforts of the KSTZ STAR 102.5 morning team of Ken Auge and Colleen Kelly during their 102-hour radiothon that concluded Saturday at Valley West Mall in Des Moines.

"Ken and Colleen's Kids" received $272,715 from listeners during the marathon broadcast, which ran from May 21 to May 25. The donations will be given to Children's Miracle Network to help support patients and their families at the Children's Hospital of Iowa within University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

"Once again, STAR listeners have proven how much they care about children," said Bill Wells, general manager of the Des Moines Radio Group. "We couldn’t be happier for all of the kids cared for by the Children's Hospital of Iowa!"

Children’s Miracle Network is the nation's largest charitable organization. One hundred percent of the funds raised through this and other Children's Miracle Network events are used to support the work of affiliated children's hospitals. Donations are used to enhance the quality of patients' hospital stays, support research and purchase the sophisticated pediatric health care equipment necessary to care for critically ill and injured children.

The Children's Hospital of Iowa at UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City is the state's longest-serving children's hospital. More than 100,000 children receive care at the Children's Hospital of Iowa and its statewide network of outreach clinics each year. In 2001, the Children's Hospital of Iowa received almost $2.4 million from Children's Miracle Network.
