UI parking cashier hours are extended until 3 a.m. weekdays, weekends
The University of Iowa will be charging for parking later into the evening
in several busy University of Iowa parking facilities, University officials
have announced. Weekend charged hours also will be longer.
The new hours begin Sunday, May 19. Cashiers will be on duty from 6:30 a.m.
until 3:a.m. Monday to Friday in Hospital Ramps 1, 2, 3, and 4; the Newton
Road Ramp, and the Field House Lot. Saturday and Sunday hours will be 9 a.m.
until 3 a.m. Currently the university charges for parking only until 1 a.m.
weekday evenings and until 1 a.m. weekends.
David Ricketts, manager of UI parking and transportation, says that the
longer hours are aimed at cutting down on overnight storage of cars by non-patients.
"It wouldn't be right to raise the rates for staff and faculty users
during daytime hours and then allow others to park for free. Patients will
be relatively unaffected by the changes, except that more spaces may become
