Bolster joins Tippie College of Business Board of Visitors

Bill Bolster, chairman and CEO of CNBC International has joined the Board of Visitors at the University of Iowa Henry B. Tippie College of Business.

The Board of Visitors is made up of more than 20 business and academic leaders who provide advice to the college about its programs and professional activities. It meets once each semester at the college.

"Being associated with the University of Iowa and the Henry B. Tippie College of Business is both a responsibility and an honor. I look forward to giving back what I can to those in the educational process," Bolster said.

Bolster began his broadcasting career in Iowa, starting in 1965 as an on-air announcer and salesman at KDTH radio in Dubuque, after receiving a bachelor of arts degree from Loras College in Dubuque. From 1977 to 1983 Bolster was vice president and general manager of KWWL-TV in his hometown of Waterloo, Iowa, as well as a member of the board of directors of its parent company, Black Hawk Broadcasting Company.

As chairman and CEO of CNBC International, Bolster is responsible for driving the expansion of the CNBC franchise overseas and leading all international efforts for CNBC. Prior to assuming this role, Bolster was the chairman and CEO of CNBC.

Since Bolster joined the network as president in January 1996, CNBC has become a global leader in business news and information. CNBC Europe, based in London, and CNBC Asia Pacific, based in Singapore, are pan-continental services that operate as partnerships with Dow Jones. The CNBC networks are available to more than 198 million households in 101 countries, with broadcasts in multiple languages, including Turkish, Hindi, Japanese, Italian and Mandarin.

During Bolster's tenure, CNBC achieved significant ratings gains for all its Business Day programs, airing weekdays 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.

Previously, Bolster served for five years as president and general manager of WNBC-TV, NBC's owned and operated flagship television station in New York City. During his tenure, the station dramatically increased its ratings and financial performance, going from number three in New York to number one. He is credited with strengthening the station's news operations, sales and marketing.

Before joining NBC, Bolster was president of Multimedia Broadcasting from 1989 to 1991. He joined that company in 1983 as vice president and general manager of KSDK-TV, an NBC affiliate in St. Louis.
