Pharmacy resident receives psychopharmacology fellowship

Ryan Carnahan, a clinical psychopharmacology resident in the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, was awarded the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Research Fellowship.

The fellowship will support Carnahan's psychopharmacology research and residency training. Funding is for one year following a psychopharmacology residency. This fellowship provides funding for Carnahan to pursue clinical research experience and training under the direct guidance of a clinic pharmaceutical scientist. Carnahan will study with Paul Perry, Ph.D., UI professor of psychiatry and pharmacy.

Carnahan is currently conducting pharmaceutical outcome studies involving psychiatric drugs using pharmacy and medical claims databases. He is also conducting geriatric psychopharmacology studies investigating which drugs are predisposed to causing delirium in nursing home patients.
