UI Department of Theatre Arts holds festival auditions
The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts will hold auditions for
the Iowa New Play Festival productions on Friday and Saturday, March 8 and
9, in E.C. Mabie Theatre of the UI Theatre Building. The Iowa New Play Festival,
featuring new scripts from the Iowa Playwrights Workshop, will take place
May 6-11, and rehearsals will begin in late March.
More than 50 roles -- including some singing roles -- are available for
the festivals productions and readings. General auditions will be held
6-9 p.m. Friday evening and 1-4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, with singing auditions
beginning at 4 p.m. March 9. Those who audition for singing parts must also
go through the general auditions.
Audition sign-up sheets are posted on the Theatre Building call board.
Auditioners will be asked to read from festival scripts, and need not prepare
an audition piece. Singers should prepare a song and bring sheet music in
the correct key -- a piano and accompanist will be provided. Auditioners who
have a headshot and current resume should submit a copy of each.
Affiliation with the Department of Theatre Arts or the UI is not required
to participate in Iowa New Play Festival productions.
