Snyder wins Gill Heart Institute’s Young Physician Scientist Award

Peter Snyder, M.D., University of Iowa associate professor of internal medicine, was named this year's winner of the Gill Heart Institute's Young Physician Scientist Award. He will receive the award and deliver a presentation at the Gill Heart Institute's Cardiovascular Research Day on Nov. 1 in Lexington, Ky.

Based at the University of Kentucky, the Gill Heart Institute was founded by Jack and Linda Gill on the principle of uniting high quality clinical cardiovascular care with leading-edge cardiovascular research. The institute endows chairs, professorships and scholarships in California, Indiana, Texas, Virginia and Kentucky.

Snyder's current research interests lie in the area of sodium channel regulation. He is currently investigating how abnormalities in channel regulation cause hypertension.

He was selected for the award based on his research track record and the originality and quality of the manuscript he submitted to the selection committee.

"I feel very honored to receive this award," Snyder said. "The credit really goes to the members of my lab who have worked very hard on this research."

Snyder received his bachelor's degree from Luther College, his medical degree from the UI, and he completed his residency at the University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas.
