UI College of Public Health offers Summer Institute

The University of Iowa's College of Public Health is offering its first annual Summer Institute with courses beginning July 8. Two of the courses will meet on campus and two are offered both on campus and via distance education. All offer three semester-hours of graduate-level credit.

The institute is designed to bring together a wide range of public health professionals for study in core disciplinary areas. Participation provides not only the positive benefits of new learning but also the opportunity to network with other public health professionals and academic experts.

"Introduction to Public Health" is a web-based course with sessions on the Iowa Communications Network (ICN) that meet from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays July 8 to Aug. 16. ICN sites for the course are Ames, Bettendorf, Cedar Falls, Council Bluffs, Creston, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Mason City, Ottumwa, Sioux City and Spencer.

"Environmental Health" will meet on the ICN from 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Monday through Friday from July 8 to Aug. 2. Sites are Ames, Cedar Falls, Des Moines and Iowa City.

The on-campus classes meet Monday through Friday July 8 to Aug. 16. "Introduction to Biostatistics" is scheduled for 1:30 to 3 p.m. and "Epidemiology I: Principles" is scheduled for 3:30 to 5 p.m.
