Graduated Parking Rate Policy Takes Effect Aug. 5
In order to ensure that more parking spaces are available for patients and
their families or visitors, a graduated parking rate will be instituted in
parking ramps at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics beginning Monday,
Aug. 5, 2002.
The graduated parking rate will apply to drivers who enter those ramps between
5 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday through Friday and leave their cars for more than
three hours. Patrons who park in those ramps under those circumstances will
pay 50 cents for the first hour, 75 cents for each of the next two hours,
and then $2 per hour after three hours. The maximum charge under the graduated
parking rate for eight or more hours will be $12 per day. Anyone who enters
the parking structures after 9 a.m. will pay the standard rate, not the graduated
Inpatients and their visitors or escorts who park in the ramps between 5
a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday through Friday may request a waiver that exempts them
from paying the graduated parking rate and allow them to pay the standard
parking rate of 50 cents for the first hour and 75 cents for each additional
hour. Waivers can be obtained on inpatient units in UI Hospitals and Clinics.
The graduated parking rate will not apply on weekends and holidays. Outpatients
will continue to receive complimentary parking during their clinic visits.
Patrons who enter the ramps between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday through Friday
but leave in fewer than three hours will pay the standard parking rate, not
the graduated parking rate.
The graduated parking rate will apply where appropriate in the Newton Road
Ramp in order to increase the availability of parking there. The Newton Road
Ramp is not intended to serve as a parking location for UI Hospitals and Clinics
patients and their visitors because it is located a considerable distance
from patient care facilities.
